Simply Movement
2/3/04
must remember breath-
movement that begins
all movement.
without it, a body becomes
more like stone.
2/4/04
such constant kineticism!
whether or not that's a word,
the truth of our ceaseless
movement remains:
hands and fingers seeking
face, eyes, hair, ears-
all the explorable soft crannies
of our bodies
toes curling and uncurling
sniffs, blinks, tongue always
its curious reptile self
the whole body seeking its balance ...
as long as blood flows
we move
asserting our lives
by such movement
2/9/04
even when I lie still-
the constant invisible motion
of blood
2/10/04
this movement brings food to my mouth.
this movement gives me air.
this movement communicates love.
this movement strengthens me...
or tires me...
this movement
makes these
words appear.
2/15/04
shift from foot to foot,
hand to hair to chin to neck
to hair again.
turn and face left, 60 degrees.
turn right 53 degrees.
shift from foot to foot.
like a train's gears,
like soft clockwork,
all the heat from the
furnace of our blood,
and we can't possibly
stand still.
2/16/04
try to move in a group
as one.
try to walk at the same time,
stop,
turn,
veer left or right,
and we stretch thin as
an amoeba -
slinky across the streets -
a long soft piston -
a flock with strays,
with scouts,
with offshoots,
broken wheels,
mad wings,
with tiny hearts beating against
our collective membraned body.
try to move as one.
discover all the separate disparate
parts,
their harmonies
and discord.
5/2/04
through my body
I find some calm.
is this not simple enough?
5/23/04
I love the power my legs
have to move me and
my bike along the road
10/20/04
being moved
or moving oneself
or moving others-
it doesn't seem to matter
which path one follows.
as long as movement occurs,
one will be content
to do it
all day
long
