Wedding Dance Lessons

Partner Dancing or Choreography?

We design our partner dancing lessons to teach students how to dance together. In the beginning we focus on connection, leading and following, basic step variations, turns, and combinations. Later we introduce elements of musicality and creativity. We demonstrate the possibilities within a dance form, giving students as many options as possible while exploring the form together. This level of choice can be daunting at first, but with practice, and with the basics committed to memory, it gives couples room to improvise and explore together. These foundational lessons even last beyond the wedding, and couples often continue dancing thoughout their lives.

Choreography is suitable for those who want to memorize a sequence of moves. A considerable amount of practice is needed to commit a two or three minute routine to memory, but once it's memorized, it can be repeated until it's polished.

We recommend the first approach for all couples even if they eventually want to work on choreography together. A strong foundation in basic partner dancing skills is more than enough to have a fulfilling wedding dance, but it also makes learning a routine much easier.
