Private Poi Spinning Lessons

Learn (Poi Spinning) at Your Own Pace

Private lessons give you a lot of flexibility for learning something new, whether it's poi or another skill. Although the cost is higher than for group classes, consider this: every single minute of your teacher's time is yours!

My teaching style is completely adaptive - I will adjust what I teach to fit your current skill level, give you concepts to practice (and eventually master), and find ways to help you understand the things that give you trouble. Finally, even though I'll be watching you try and even fail at first, I never judge my students unless it's to praise their success!

In case you prefer a list, private poi spinning lessons are perfect for people who:

  • want instant feedback
  • are interested in learning specific techniques
  • learn at a different pace than other students
  • are developing their own spinning style
  • prefer the flexibility of a one-on-one schedule

The Basics? Again?!

For some wonderful reason, I gain a lot of simple pleasure from teaching the basics to new students. You'll never have to worry about the pace at which you're learning! Of course, I also love teaching more advanced students too - I have a lot of amazing stuff to share!

Spinning Poi Together - When and Where?

I teach private lessons throughout the week, at times that are convenient for my students, and at locations that are suitable for poi. Sometimes this means my home studio, where we can work on low moves, and sometimes this means a park, Robson Square, a student's home or workplace, or another studio. We'll work this part out when you contact me.

Learning How to Learn: A Useful Skill

When you come to a private lesson, be ready to actively learn. Here are some ways to make better use of your time and money:

  • Do research beforehand. For example, the Home of Poi Lessons Page has a lot of great poi videos. Watch them, note the names of moves you like, and I'll teach them to you.
  • Bring a notepad to keep track of what you learn, so your brain can focus on learning.
  • Bring a video/digital camera so you can record clips of moves for later use.
  • Ask questions, ask questions, ask questions!
  • Communicate your thoughts - is the lesson too fast, too slow? Make sure it goes the way you want it to.
